Memory Lane
Laudate Dominum from Vesperae de Domica by Mozart
Eve is now in Vienna and re-tracing the past. I did the same. It was really interesting to see how my memories of the area didn’t quite square up with the reality. I don’t remember the church opposite the flat being so big, neither do I remember the way the villas suddenly give way to flats, nor do I remember the small Heuriger but 100 metres away. But I remembered other things as if I had been there only yesterday.
Sometimes, trips down memory lanes are sad journeys, not because the memories are sad, but because the people who made the memories are no longer with us, so today’s track is a sad one. Not strictly opera, but worthy of inclusion.
Eve then needs to meet someone in a café, or rather that’s where I put her for the next couple of hours since the sleety snow was utterly miserable and every novel needs a mysterious rendezvous in a café, doesn’t it?
