The Phantom Pen is Warming Up
It’s that time of year again! NaNoWriMo19 starts on Friday. I hummed and hawed about taking part this year, as I seem to have even less time for reading fiction at the moment, let alone writing it. But the thought of not participating was just too disheartening … So the phantom pen has been polished, a bulk purchase of cartridges has been made and a brand new notebook is ready and waiting.
With five days to go, I have a smidgeon of an idea, but instead of spending the afternoon planning plots, characters and settings, I managed to waste most of it agonising over the title. I finally decided on The Art of Scandal, only to discover that there are at least two other novels with that title. I’m therefore starting with the working title of Scandal as an Art Form.
Because it’s November, there’ll be the usual mix of Vienna, Paris and London – although in a different order this year. And I’ve decided not to start with a death or a funeral, but there will undoubtedly be a sausage stand somewhere along the way. Beyond that, it’s a blank canvas, a blank page and a very blank notebook.
