I read somewhere that when you get stuck, another character should enter the room, so that’s what I’m doing. Eve needs a bestie, a pal that she can talk to about John and everything else that’s going on in her life. Only a bestie will give the reassuring answers to questions such as: “He hasn’t called for an hour, do you think he’s going off me?”; “Do you think I’m a slut sleeping with him straightaway?” “Do you think he thinks that I’m a slut?” etc. Abbie is the long-suffering chum. In post-NaNo editing, I’m now going to have to rewrite some of the earlier chapters to include Abbie, particularly if they met at school.
Whoever said that about the new character is absolutely right. I feel renewed and re-invigorated; those last 20,000 words are just going to pour out of the nib of the phantom pen ….
