Introducing Evelyn

Ahime! S'Appressa Alcun from Un Ballo in Maschera by Verdi

I had forgotten what fun NaNo was.  I started yesterday with some trepidation as I was beginning the adventure without any idea of direction – no characters, no plot, no ideas, but already the Phantom Pen has started to write its magic and the words are flowing.  Chapter One is now finished, it’s a rather short chapter as it’s more of a character setter, and Chapter Two is underway. We briefly met her in the prologue, but Chapter One tells us more about Evelyn, our protagonist, a photographer who, having just had a very successful exhibition, is looking for her next assignment, but something happens (we don’t know what yet) that will send her off on a different course.  I have the Proust Questionnaire and I intend to fill this in for all my main characters to help me understand them – a little something for the weekend.  And once I’ve done that, I should be able to double the length of the first chapter.

I’ve also decided that this year, unless something obvious leaps out at me, the playlist will be from opera I listen to whilst novelling, rather than necessarily relevant to the plot.  Stand by for a lot of Verdi and Bellini…
